Chocolate Cream Angel Food Cake

{one of my friends introduced me to this site...yummy treats! this cake was soooo yummy! i loved the chocolate whipped cream frosting!}

Chocolate Cream Angel Food Cake

1 Angel Food cake, baked and cooled completely

3 cups heavy whipping cream
2/3 cup powdered sugar
½ cup cocoa

1/2 cup toasted, slivered almonds

In a large glass bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream until it begins to thicken. Carefully add the powdered sugar and cocoa gradually and continue whipping. I find the best way to do this is to place the bowl in the kitchen sink and whip with a hand mixer so that when it splatters, it doesn't get the entire kitchen messy. The cocoa will look like it is separating and lumpy but continue to beat until stiff peaks form and by then, the cocoa should be evenly combined. (If you are worried about lumps you can sift in the cocoa and powdered sugar with a fine mesh sieve.) The frosting should be thick and spreadable - but not overly whipped or it will look a bit curdly. Just beat to stiff peaks.

When the angel food cake has been baked and cooled completely, cut the cake in half to form two round circles. Lay the top half to the side and gently remove pieces of the angel food cake to form a ditch in the bottom portion of the cake (taking care not to dig all the way to the bottom of the cake, you want a layer of cake on the bottom underneath the ditch). Spoon frosting into the ditch you made and lay the top circle of cake back on top. Frost the sides, top and middle of the cake. Top with toasted almonds. Refrigerate until time to serve. A serrated knife works best to cut the cake into slices.

the other pillow was lonely

so last night we rented the blind side, and it was so refreshing to watch a good, uplifting show! it made me think about the people that will come into my life that God will want me to help and hopefully i'll be in the right mindset to do so. also, a song came into my head that i sang in my teenage years at a church meeting about service called we are his hands. God can only work miracles through people. i'm glad to know there are still good people out there.

well, now to get off my tangent...while watching the movie i decided to try my hand at crocheting a pillow for the little couch. i did 24 rows of double crochet with the orange, and then created a giant mum with my base pattern from yarncat.com

this is why i can't sleep at night b/c i'm thinking about all the things i want to be making!

seems to me

so i'm just really loving this awesome book from the library! i am still finding many cute projects to do from it! here's a cute apron that i made with a pattern from seems to me.
sewing is such a release to me! there's nothing like reaping the benefits from a finished project. it was so fun to make chocolate chip cookies with it on. {it totally made the cookies taste better}. although i feel a bit out of place without heels and pearls {i guess i'm not quite that perfect little 50's wife!}

my little projects, pillow & key chain

ever since we got our beautiful antique sofa down in amish country, i've been wanting a few pretty pillows...we'll, i got one finished. i just ripped the edges and stitched them together and then hand stitched on a few flowers. too fun!

i also found this pattern for a super cute fabric key chain that fits around your wrist perfect so that when you are in the store you can keep it on you arm and not have to dig through your bag for like 15 minutes when your walking out to your car (if you're anything like me!)

my little projects, our holiday tree

G and i saw a cute little "stick tree" in our favorite catalogue (pottery barn, we love to go through it together when it comes in the mail) so she talked her daddy into cutting us down some branches so we could make and egg tree. we thought for each holiday we could put up different decorations.

i also found this super cute pattern for fabric stuffed birds. the mobile idea on this blog is to die for too!

G cut out her own fabric, i taught her how to pin her pattern to the fabric, and to sometimes line the pattern up with the fold. she also helped sew and stuff her birds as well. we had a great time together making these trees and the ornaments.

FYI, i put bags of beans and ripped paper down in the bottom of the can and tied twine around the 3 different branches to hold them together and to keep them balanced and in place. we then put moss over the top. we love the way they turned out. G has one in her room too. now we just have to keep super baby out of them!

my little projects, fabric balls

so this week has been "spring break" for me with my masters program. with all my free time (ha, ha) and apart from being really sick, i've finished a few projects that i wanted to get done. i also started some new ones...sheesh.

my first project was to make my boy some balls. he is growing up so fast!

i checked the book out SEEMS TO ME from my local library and found so many cute patterns in it! hopefully i'll finish the other ones i want to.

any who, i found the hexagon/pentagon ball pattern in that book. it's like a giant soccer ball, and all my kids love it.

and here is the link for the beach balls, which were easier...but i'm glad i made both. super baby loves them.
